The first club event of the year, for the Marionville Trophy, was sailed on Saturday 5th March 2011.  A total of 13 skippers competed including new club member George Davidson sailing his TS2, visitor Gordon Neil from Ayr Bay with his Errica, and distant club member Alistair Law from Peterhead sailing his McShee. The weather was fine, and the wind was light, from the northeast, varying in strength and direction all day, with a variety of holes which were to catch out a number of skippers. A windward leeward course was set with a hitch mark at the windward end and a gate at the leeward end.

After a practice race the event got underway with a win for Tom Milne sailing his black Widget, followed by Robert Brown and his Italico, with Alistair Law taking third place. The second race was won by Alistair Law who now dominated the event, winning all the remaining races except two, in one of which he was second behind Robert Brown, and in the other of which he was acting as bye boat. In the group behind Alistair were Robert Brown, Tom Milne and Richard Ennos with a new own design named Halfcut. Throughout the rest of the fleet there was good competition and excellent second and third place finishes in individual races by John Dewar and his TS2, Sandy Mackay sailing a modified Red Wine, Fritz Olsen with a Lintel, and Gordon Neil whose results steadily improved throughout the day. In his first competition George Davidson managed results as high as sixth place with his TS2 which was not best suited to the light wind conditions. Terry Connell sailing his newly acquired V3 had mysterious electrical problems all day. These were eventually traced to sharing of frequencies with Richard Ennos. A review of club member’s frequencies is clearly needed to prevent these problems in the future.

After a total of ten races with two discards (one for the bye boat race) Alistair Law was the very clear winner, with Robert Brown taking second by a single point from Richard Ennos, and Tom Milne in fourth.
